Aftercare for tattoos & piercings
GENERAL AFTERCARE FOR TATTOO
After receiving a tattoo we recommend leaving the
bandage on 2-3 hours. Leave bandage on if you are in an area that could expose it to dirty conditions. Once away from said conditions, thoroughly wash hands and remove bandage. Wash tattoo with an anti bacterial soap, rinse and gently pat dry. The day you receive your tattoo, washing it is all that needs to be done. No moisturizing on the first day.
The second day after receiving your tattoo, you may being moisturizing. Apply a non scented dry skin moisturizing lotion 3-5 times per day. Some good options for lotion are, Lubriderm, Aveeno, Eucerin, and Cere Ve to name a few.
Tattoo specific salves and lotions are also good options.
Apply moisturizer daily for 2 weeks or until the tattoo has
smoothed over and is free of dry flaky skin. You may experience itchiness and dry skin throughout the healing process. This is normal and to be expected. It is important to avoid scratching or picking at dry skin during this time.
Do not soak the tattoo during the healing period, (swimming, hot tubs, baths, etc.) Be sure not to expose healing tattoos to prolonged sun exposure, always protect them with sun block.
All of these steps will ensure your tattoo heals in the best way and optimize healed results.

GENERAL AFTERCARE FOR PIERCINGS:
The piercing site will look a little red, swelling, and there maybe a little bruising, this is all normal. It is not recommended to cover with band-aids or other bandages to limit air circulation. NEVER touch piercing with dirty hands. Wash hands immediately before touching or cleaning your piercing every time, using a mild liquid anti-bacterial soap (dial) only to wash piercing and jewelry. After the soap has sat in the piercing a couple of minutes thoroughly rinse by applying water and rotating the jewelry several times to ensure no traces of soap are left behind. Thoroughly clean piercing two to three times daily while your piercing is in the healing stage.
Estimated healing time may differ for your particular piercing. Your piercing will not be completely healed until many weeks after the initial healing time is over. DO NOT use any ointments, creams, or astringents on your new piercing. ONLY antibacterial soap (dial) and clean water. Before washing your piercing with warm water saturate a cotton ball and gentle wipe away
"CRUSTIES" that form on the jewelry and around the piercing site.
SEA SALT SOAKS:
Use only sea salt not table salt. You can find sea salt in most grocery stores and almost all health food stores. Mix 1/2 tsp. with one cup warm water making sure the salt has dissolved. Saturate a cotton ball with the sea salt solution and hold on the piercing for about 4-5 minutes changing the cotton ball as soon as it becomes cool to the touch. When you are done soaking your piercing rinse with warm clean water thoroughly, this will help with the itching you may experience while going through the healing process.
ORAL AFTERCARE:
Use ice for the first 24-72 hours to keep swelling to a minimum. Rinse with Listerine as well as with the sea salt mixture after eating anything but water, including cigarettes.
